Can someone please speak to how much of a tail block do I need if I intend to use a screwed-on strap button instead of an end pin. Reason I'm asking, is traditional construction used a solid block of wood which often gets covered with a bit of crossgrain wood or plywood so that the block doesn't split if the guitar, using the common unthreaded wedge of an end pin, gets dropped on said end pin. Is a tail block used only to give an endpin a destination? I've seen recommendations to use a piece of thick plywood instead of the block. I can't remember seeing comments as to how much of an end block is needed if the wedging pin is replaced by a strap button.
Thanks, folks.
