It' here - Fingerboard Radius Bit

Post by Tim Benware » Mon Apr 20, 2015 6:57 pm

I got my new FB 16" radius bit and set it up and tried it out today. Once set up (I had to get a new router that accepts 1/2" bits and fit it to the router plate) it was real easy to use. I made a holder for it and what use to take me, well, a lot longer, I got the board radiused in about 2 minutes. There was some minor sanding needed but it came out while sanding down the FB dot markers.

Nice. Trying to remember and looking at the bit. Do you run it through once then flip it and do the other side?

Yes. Cut the FB so it is same width on both ends (as close to a perfect rectangle as yo can get it), then set the bit height to 1/2 the FB width. The top portion of the bit will ride flat on the FB center line. I had a very same ridge it a couple spots on the FB that sanded out quite easily.

Was there any explanation why the is a need for the bearing? Like it seems you decided I think it would just get in the way.

In his demo video he remove it as well. It seems easier to measure the height without the bearing in the way. I am going to try it with the bearing when I get a chance. But it seems it would be better supported when it is on the fence as opposed to the bearing although setup might be easier using the bearing.

Well seems no one mentioned the durability of the bit. I would assume the bearing is the center point.
