Melanie, 14. House cat. 3 pm sun brings her to the box in the dining room. Born Ash Wednesday, 2001, Magazine St., New Orleans. Brought on daughter's lap, chipmunk-sized, to Austin, TX. Transported to bucolic boondocks of the Frozen North Rust Belt in '03. Sole survivor of the infamous Ripper Sisters - big sister Scarlett (also white) put down in '09 with lymphatic cancer. Used to sing with me, not for a while now. Used to jump up on the grooming table in her bedroom, lift her now. Last of a long line of barn and garage cats, coon hounds, and a splendid German Shepherd.

14 years is a good long life (so far) for a pretty cat like that - in bucolic surroundings, and a padded box, she should continue to be a pal and foot-warmer in bed for some more years!
