The book was first published in 1975 and has been amazingly popular from the beginning. Don wrote this book more for self preservation, seems he was spending vasts amount of time relaying and explaining his methods --- he had become the premier repair person in the field. I am personally grateful since there is no doubt that I gleaned more guitar construction and repair knowledge from Don's works than any other source. The reason is simple, his ideas and methods are proven "not the repeated misinformation" I see in print and now all over the internet.
This is not a construction method but the content will prove to be an asset to all makers -- Don gets down to the anatomy of the instrument and why we need to do certain things a certain way -- it is not results by chance or trial and error so often professed.
He has working drawings for many useful tools fret dresser, fret board slotting tool, cam clamps, spool clamps, three point finger-board caul and many others. He covers finishing, re-finishing, pearl inlay, side bending and much more.
In my view this is a must read must have book for anyone serious about the hobby or profession.
