I see references to these two rattle-can products used for what seems to be the same purpose, a protective layer on the instrument soundboard while working on the body. Any difference between the two that I need to understand? Are they interchangeable?

"Seal" coat is a just that, a sanding sealer -- has fillers easy to sand. The shellac is a top coat product.

I use this for putting on the area of the top, back and sides that I will be taping up for binding. It gets scraped and sanded off before the seal coat of nitro I put on.

Dave, slow response here...your comment that 'it's an excellent product' applies to which of the two Zinsser products I asked about, or maybe both?

Thanks!

Hi Pete - I don't use the rattle can shellac - I get the small can of sealcoat for the pore filling.
