It looks useful - does anyone here use this or is there something better?
The price $18.95 is not that bad but the shipping - and I think this thing weighs about an ounce - is $6.95. <sigh>.
I've asked various companies to just drop things like this in an envelope and add a few stamps but the answer is always no.
I would like your opinions on the tool itself. Thanks

Re: Stewmac string action gauge
I have this and the "nut slotting gauge" which costs a lot more. Of the two, I much prefer the nut slotting gauge. Just grip your gut, get out your card, pay out the nose, then get the nut slotting gauge.

I'd rather whine, it comes naturally to me and does not cost a thing. :-)

Look on E*** for 'string action gauge'. Between three and seven bucks postpaid.

I use their nut slotting gauge, it's more accurate. LMI has a new digital string height gauge that looks pretty nice, but they are more expensive.

Feeler gauges for me.

I got the gauge, but use it mostly for different purposes.
Like Ken, most of the time I use feeler gauges on the guitars. Easier to use, because the SM thing has a very tiny scale, with very close lines. You have to look quite precise to know where you are. But if you want, it is usable.
