Fox Bender control mounting

I've started building a Fox-Style side bender. I'm using the spring timer with incandescent bulbs. When dummying things up, I notice that it looks like a very tight fit to mount an outlet box for the spring timer in the end panel as the blueprints show. I have seen photos where others have mounted the controls externally. Is that necessary, or will it be ok to go ahead and mount everything in the end panel?

Looks fancy Jim. What is a spring timer? I have a count down timer mounted in a box on the outside of the unit.

It's a mechanical timer switch. The complete name is Spring wound Timer. They are normally used as bathroom exhaust fan or heat lamp timers. The 'spring' in the name means it uses a clockwork spring. Yours is probably the same thing if it turns out the lights in your bender.

Yes, that's the same timer I have.

I decided to go with an external control box. It's all done except for detailing and attaching the legs. It reached 118°f. (and climbing) in the first few minutes. I've not yet tested it to see how quickly it reaches bending temperature.

Heat tested today: 45-50 minutes to reach 285° f.
