I need to pick up a case for the KMG 12 fret Ditson style guitar I'm working on. I don't have a dread case around the house to test fit - should it fit in a regular Martin D style case?
Do any of you have recommendations for a decent hard case?
Don't need anything too fancy.
This seemed, ok

Daniel,
The typical headstock for a 12-string is 1.5 - 2.0 inches longer than a 6-string. The Martin 6-string headstock - the gold standard - is about 6 inches long. You could measure your KMG's and compare it to that.
To my eye, it looks like there is plenty of room at the headstock end for the additional length in this case. Since they are both dreads, the body should fit just fine.
Good looking case.
EDIT - OMG: These old eyes read "12 fret" as "12 string"!?#@? I suppose the real question is whether the dread size would swallow up the smaller guitar, if indeed yours is smaller than standard dread. (Some buyers mention having a problem with fit.) The answer might be YES, might be NO. Might take your git to Guitar Center and see how it fits in various sizes first. Either buy one there, or use the info to shop the internet.

The skb hard case, D size, should work fine as well. I've gotten a couple of "000" size from guitar Outlet delivered for $99. Hard black plastic, plush interior, not fancy but does a good job of protecting the instrument.

I've gotten the SBK cases from Guitar Center myself and they are reasonably well built, do the job, and are not that expensive. But I would still put the guitar in and see how it fits before buying.
