I know what it is. It's a scoring tool used before routering the outside groove for a rosette. The idea is that the scoring cut helps leave a cleaner edge without tearout on the outside of the rosette. I've tried and failed to find it using Google. I found some simpler single beam scoring tools, but nothing like this double beam model.

I'm pretty certain the one I pictured is available to buy somewhere. It just has that factory-made look to it. I assumed stewmac or LMI, but cannot find anything like it on their websites. I have fly cutters, and I've seen single beam scoring tools. All are tall, making for an unstable platform. This unit is very low to the soundboard and appears to be very stable.

Use sharp down spiral bits and you will be able to forget that tool and procedure. We cut many rosette channels per day --- no such tool in our shop.

I may never have one in my shop, but I would like to satisfy my curiosity what it is. edit: Who makes it or who sells it? How expensive is it?

Sorry. Meant to say who is the manufacturer or seller? Is it designed for this use, or is it used in another field of woodworking and adapted to this?
