I'm getting started on my first! An OM 14 fret kit from Ken. I've been reading and researching guitar building for 8 or 9 years. I'm coming in with very limited prior woodworking experience, but I'm thrilled to finally be starting on it.
Specs:
KMG OM kit
14 Fret
East Indian Rosewood B/S
Sitka Spruce top
Mahogany neck
Flamed Maple bindings.
Tail block being glued:
Neck Block in process (don't worry, many other clamps were used than what's in the pictured)... used Ken's method of using locator holes to ensure the centerline on the neck block:
Top kerfing going in:
Top kerfing done:
Bought more clothespins and did the bottom all in one shot:
Side struts going in:
Side struts and kerfing all done:
This is where I stand now. I'm feeling pretty good about my work so far, especially coming into it with very little fine woodworking experience.
Next up: Radiusing the back and maintaining the neck angle. Debating about getting some support veneers and doing a sound port... We'll see how confident I'm feeling later this week.
