Cam clamps or handscrew clamps?

Just about to get started on a first time kit build. Just wondering if there were any advantages to using either of these? Also being told by a well-respected luthier that quick-release bar clamps can easily be used as a substitute for spool clamps for gluing tops/back to sides.

Hi Steve,
Welcome!
There are many ways to clamp the top and back to the rim -- I'll post some of my favorite methods here -- how about posting pixs of the clamps you are considering for this job.
Thanks

I use both. I wish I had a couple more cam clamps. The cam clamps have a much deeper throat which is often useful for me.

I really like the cam clamps, and could use a few more. I have considered making some, but just haven't done it yet. One of these days, I will.

There is a variation of the cam clamp, where the cam lever is replaced with a conventional screw-down. This gives the reach of the cam clamp with the convenience of the screw.

I really appreciate the advice, and it seems that the cam clamps are the preferred clamp to use. I am really just trying to accumulate the basics, as I don't want to get myself in over my head right off the bat(tool cost wise)
