Removing glue residue

Post by ken cierp » Tue Mar 18, 2014 8:14 pm

De-Glue Goo is a product that has always flown below the radar -- fact is -- its a must have for repair persons. Beats the heck out of trying to sand off glue residue since it actually softens and pulls the glue out of the pores. I've yet to re-glue a bridge using only this product to clean the area, but supposedly you can? And I've been needing to buy some -- believe it or not Stew Mac has the best price by far.

Timely I just picked up a fresh bottle form Rockler Woodworking Supply. I really like the stuff. Also it is great at finding unseen glue residue on the sides after binding or filling gaps.

Will this stuff creep under and into seams and soften glue where you don't want it too?

Its used by some repair persons to clean up the bridge area in prep for a new bridge -- the warning is to make sure the surface is completely dry.

In trying to save the top it in fact DID seep into joints and seams that you may not want to disturb...I would say use sparingly and in dry climates cover with plastic wrap to hold in the moisture...
