tuning peg holes

My tuning peg holes were pre-drilled to 1/4 in. The kit came that way. I have a set of Schaller pegs. They require a 25/64 in. hole. On some scrap I pre-drilled a 1/4 n. hole. I ran the 25/64 in. bit backwards to help avoid chipout. I then started the bit forward and you guessed it... major chipout. I had it clamped to a backer board and exit chipout was minimal. I do not know how to get the holes drilled to the proper size without messing up the peghead. Any help would be great. Thankyou. Jon

I knock off the edges (chamfer) the hole with a Stanley 3/4" six flute chatter-less counter sink. #HS 14
Also, on occasion I have counter bored for the washer, this process eliminates the worry of the washer peeling back the finish when the tuner nut is tightened.
