Acoustic Guitar Construction

This 14" bandsaw at sears - I almost walked by it without noticing it said: "8" resaw capability.
Took another look and spent 20 minutes or so trying to get a feel for it.
It's on sale btw.
It feels real solid; the bearing are the kind that could be replaced with some Carters if need be; it has a nice quick-release tension system, the table is big and tilts easy and stays in place. Two dust ports - 2", 4". I'm sure the wheels are light aluminum, and it's only 1 hp but has 2 speeds.
Maybe a mix of good stuff and some stuff that could be upgraded if necessary?
$379 ain't bad.

Of course I would need a good blade for it.

8" resaw!!

Do you just need someone to say it? Buy it!

I have a similar, slightly older, Craftsman 12", the model discussed here. I've been happy with the build quality. It has a 7.5A motor and 6" resaw capacity. I can't say how much more it could handle, but it did a nice job for me on 4" rosewood with a 1/2" "smooth slicer" blade from Woodcraft Bands in NC (looks like their web site is down). The one you're looking at has a 9A motor, so it is at least a step up.

I have the 12" craftsman as well, and it does a good job up to 5" using a woodslicer blade - those are good blades.
But for a 16" guitar, I need that full 8" and this is the most reasonably priced, decently built machine I've found that has that capacity.
My need for outside approval to buy something is pathetic. But, since you gave it, when I scratch together a few bucks I might just do it. :-)

I have an old Craftsman (30 years!) still works just fine for light work 1/2 HP -- not enough. I see no mention of the rated HP on that ad. For me the fact that it does not a have a riser like most of the heavy duty 14" saws would be a show stopper -- by design it seems limited in compatible with after market accessories -- like a Carter guide system. $.02

8" would not be enough for our work?
It's 1 hp btw - more would be better, but 1 hp will do the job
The model I looked at had guides that would swap out for Carters - I'll check it out again though, that's a big deal.

Just saying -- it not uncommon for us to have billets 12" wide.
