I came into posession of some really cool modeling software -- Rhino 5, so I am thinking about 9 string guitars, the possible configurations and HS design. Maybe just 8 strings?

Now THAT is tempting...I've been thinking about an 8-string for a couple of years now, but along the lines of the pic attached. I take it that you are thinking of a regular, but wider neck?

Sounds like a fun project, I for one would be interested.

I am thinking an eight string may be easier to play and more appealing to a finger-picker -- should get the "Lutish" sound without all the "jangle" of a 12 string.

Nylon strung? I agree the 8 would give the greater range and still be comfortable.

I have seen some 8 and 9 string classical guitars with wide fret boards. Were you thinking of a fixed scale length. It would nice to have the bass strings a bit longer. I have seen fan frets guitars with the longer scale length for the bass strings. In terms of playing one, I still have enough trouble with 6 stirrings, although I have watched good classical players play with 8 strings.
