I picked up a Stafford antique Uke on eBay a couple of years ago. I was going to build one for my Grandson to plunk on. Now this is a cool little Soprano Uke. The back is actually arched. It has a intentional bulge in the back. Was that carved in there or is there someway one can make that bulge. It's not a guitar I know just a guitars little brother.

There are ways to do it with "flat", non-carved wood. Maccaferri "pliage" comes to mind at first. You can also simply radius the braces before they are attached to the plate too. Whether any of this was actually done, of course, is a different issue. Any pictures you can post?

Its done the same way as a guitar -- you contour/bevel the back edge of the rim with a 15' radius sanding bar or dish and use 15' contoured braces on the back. For a uke, make sure the back plate is not too thick about .075 +/- will work good.

Thanks John and Ken for you responses. I actually tried to post a reply a bit ago with my Iphone but I just updated to IOS7-2 and nothing is working. My photobucket will not upload photo's at the moment. My attempt at posting on here with the phone didn't work neither. Any way I'll get the Photo's up when I can. Had a big day today. Went downtown and bought a Craftsman 10inch Table Saw. With the foot operated on/off switch. Then drove out into the country to a cabinet shop where the owner gave me a piece of Formica to use on the Thickness Sander I'm collecting the pieces and parts to assemble. When I got home my Mega Mold had been delivered. Man I'm over the top. Having to rest up after all that running around. Thanks for that Ken. So I have to figure out what the problem is with this stupidhead phone. Then I'll post the pictures up.

Here's a KMG Uke in progress

As you can see the back is domed using the process mentioned above

Thanks Ken I went back and looked at my Uke and it appears to have been done that exact way. However it is such a tiny instrument there's no way it's going to fit in the MM.
