Air compressor settings

I have a small spray gun with a 1.0 tip, and a 15 gal 135psi compressor. From what I understand, the gun needs no more than 22psi. With about a 25 foot hose, I was thinking of setting the pressure at the compressor to put out about 35-40 psi. Does that make sense? I'm thinking I'd need more pressure there due to hose length (I really don't know if that matters) but I should have more pressure coming to the gun than the gun needs. I can set the input to the gun to 22psi.
Reading Ken's comments on another thread, you need to have consistent air to the gun to get uniform results.
Am I on the right track here? I started practicing today with water and set the gun up to 22psi, but did not set up the compressor to limit the amount coming out. Seems every time I'd pull the trigger, I'd get more air than I needed, but very, very quickly it would throttle down to the 22psi.
I appreciate any help.
Thanks,
Bob

Do you have a pressure gauge on the gun. I also set the pressure at 40 psi on the wall. I set the gun to about 25 psi set while spraying. I always trigger off the instrument.

John, yes, I do have a regulator on the gun and a filter. I went to an auto body shop across the highway from my office and talked with one of the painters there. He ordered the gun and other things for me and walked me thru it a bit - but that was 2 years ago.
Youtube, including Robbie O'Brien's, has given me a lot of information and surprisingly it's mostly consistent.
Since I'm using Zpoxy as a pore filler, I'm following your steps in using shellac as a sealer. I think you said you brushed it on or wiped it on. How many coats, 2? Do you sand between coats? Pretty much just level it out.
I've been using 320 grit between Zpoxy coats and have 3 coats on there now. I'll go easy tomorrow on the sanding and may go with 400 depending on what I see. I had a good number of shiny spots after the 2nd coat, so I sanded back pretty far and decided that a 3rd coat of regular strength was needed. Hopefully tomorrow I'll see a bunch of flatness. If it comes out pretty good I'll put a very light coat on and very lightly sand it.
That shellac looks pretty thick. I don't suppose it would be worth trying to spray it, would it?
Thanks for the reply, John. Seems I learned something after all from watching all that. I feel very comfortable spraying the Emtech 6000. And I'll do plenty of practice over 2-3 days to make sure I'm going right.

I just pad on the shellac with a rag. I wipe on a 1 lb cut of shellac and wait just a couple of minutes and wipe on a second coat. No leveling of the shellac as it should be very thin. Any sanding would just take it off. The shellac should be thinner than the em6000. What kind is it? You might want to cut it with DA. You can spray it but keep the coat thin. I would first get the zpoxy sanded with no shinny area as it is harder to fill with the finish.
