Re: J185 neck and dovetail
I've never done a dovetail, but just looking at it, why not just hit it hard with a big mallet??
Just kidding of course - I'm sure you'll do fine.

Re: J185 neck and dovetail
I think I will use my 3 ton arbor press, more control.
Re: J185 neck and dovetail
I would not do any more fitting until you shape the heel and carve in the cheek relief. Is there a set angle machined on the neck? Nice work!

Re: J185 neck and dovetail
no, all by hand. I did cut the angle complimentary to the angle of the top, about 89 degrees +or-.

Re: Tim's J185
got the neck fitted, a couple of small gaps but not too bad. The finger board is just held on with the alignment pins and the neck is just held by the dovetail. Glued on the heel cap and called it a day. Do you guys (and gals) fret your fingerboard prior to gluing it to the neck?? Seems like it would make things easier but can you keep it flat enough?? I would appreciate any opinions. Thanks in advance, Tim
