Bridge String Spacing

Post by Tj Turner » Sun Aug 04, 2013 7:16 pm

Hi All...

I'm setting into building a pair of OMs, and redesigning my bridge. What string spacing are you guys currently using, and why? Just looking for a little feedback before I start drilling!

Thanks!

I like 2.25". I also use wider spacing at the nut. 1 and 13/16ths inch. Perhaps because my technique is poor, or because I spent a lot of time playing classical when I was younger, but I find it easier to play with more room between the strings. It certainly is not because of my big meat hook hands, because I have normal sized hands.

Here's some info that gives the corrolation between fret board width and pin spacing. I'd say that generally fingerpicker tend to like a little wider finger-board and pin spacing. Players that move from electric's to acoustics would prefer standard width 1/11/16 FB at the nut and 2 1/8 pin spacing.

Perfect, thanks guys. That's what I was looking for. I was thinking about 2 1/4.

I'll throw in the game late here. I like 2 3/16". It is middle of the road and for me feels comfortable when both strumming and finger picking.
