Gap between the rim halves

I cut one rim half successfully. Put it back in the MM and it lines up with the CL and is square with the MM base. However the cut line on the second half appears short by 1/16" or so and is not exactly square with the mating half. Can I use the trimmed half as a template to draw a corrected line on the second half ? If there is a slight gap ( say 1/32") either because the cuts are not perfectly square or they are slightly short (i.e., I cut off 1/32" too much) can I just move the MM spools as needed to close the gap. I want to be sure that if the guitar width is off by a fraction that it's not going to affect something else on the build.

BTW I'm using a 6" fine tooth hand saw and a metal bar as a guide to trim the rims.

Thanks,

Jay

Always pictures please

Sounds like you need to do nothing especially if the error is on the tail block end. But I reserve comment until I see the situation.

Pics of tail and neck end.

The tail end is in question. The neck block end appears ok. I annotated the pics to describe the question.

No problem -- that will be covered by the tail wedge.

Directly posted pictures/attachments are better then an album link, as long as they are not to large they show up in your posts. http://www.faststone.org/ image viewer is great for re-sizing

As Ken says, the gap at the butt end of the guitar doesn't matter as you will be creating a bigger gap when you cut for the end wedge.
Keep your mould as it is and everything will be fine, the tail block will take care of joining the two side together - gappy or not.

Ken - Thanks so much.

I cut the second rim half and the gap is about 3/32" at top. The second cut is not perfectly square. (rim half on left). I guess my hand saw needs calibrating : )
Should I care about the lack of bonding at the rim ends? I can trim again to get it closer but since the rim wedge covers it ....

The neck block end is about perfect (to my eye).

Thank you,

Jay

End to end bonds in any situation do nothing and would fail on their own. In this situation all that area gets removed so the wedge can be installed.
