And Kent is on his way!! KMG L-00

Post by Dave Bagwill » Sat Apr 20, 2013 2:31 pm

I've got a new 'student' - his name is Kent Hieder, an intelligent, curious, and friendly chap who does not play guitar, but who contacted me saying he would love to build a 'functional work of art'. Well it's guaranteed to be functional - it is a KMG L-00 kit, after all :-) - and the art part, we'll see what resources Kent has inside him to draw on - he says he's "not very good at that stuff", but I've already seen flashes of the artistic sensibility. Plus, he is meticulous, and patient, and sets a high bar for himself, all good qualities IMHO. This will be a fun and rewarding project for both of us.
Here's some pix to get us started.
BTW, knowing the kit is going to be right sure takes a lot of the pressure off. If a chisel slips or a chip breaks or a split happens while we're working on the kit, well then that is why I am there, and why this Forum is here, partly - we can "make it like it never happened". (fingers slightly crossed :-))

Sounds like good times.

So Dave, now you hire people to make the mistakes for you? And we have to jump in to resolve them?
And you call Kent curious!?

Herman

Ken, can we set a reward/fee policy for good tips?

No, Herman, I still proudly make my own mistakes. :-)
They hire ME to show them how to make them.

Big day - Kent finished tapping and chiseling, chiseling and tapping, and finally was happy with the tapped and chiseled result.
A top that rings nicely, is clean and ready to glue.
He's very shy (not!) so signed the top and made me - I mean, allowed me - to take a pic or two.
The back will be done tomorrow so we'll be closing her up in a couple of days.

Looks nice. Are those brace ends not going into the side?

Good eyes Kevin! Those braces are thinned to a very thin end where they will fit under the kerfing.
