Here's another finishing product for your consideration:
A couple of years ago I acquired a steel guitar that was in terrible shape on the surface. It came from Texas and the finish was dull and had something spilled on it that I assume was coffee. I couldn't clean it so I decided to sand it down and refinish it using the original paint product. I contacted the manufacturer and was told the finish was Sherwin Williams Cellulose Acetate Butyrate Clear (CAB Clear). I was able to order this product locally in a one gallon size (way more than needed). Anyway, I'm not sure how close this product is to Nitrocelluose Laquer, but it may or may not be similar. I wanted to avoid a compatibility problem as the guitar was made from highly figured wood and I wanted the final result to show it off as well as be very durable. Here's the end result, which I'm very happy with. This product can either be sprayed or brushed on (thin appropriately as it is quite thick out of the can. It dries to the touch in about an hour and several coats can be applied the same day. It sands and buffs out extremely well.

Dennis, that finish looks nice but it seriously distorted your acoustic guitar:)
