Now that I'm gathering fabrication tools, I am asking the wisdom of the group to suggest an inexpensive saw that can cut the .023 fret slots with a positive depth stop to suit the slotting jig. I don't mind buying a saw and drilling a couple of holes in the blade for an adjustable bar stop, and making up the bar stop, or buying a saw from a luthier's supply, come to that, but such a saw would cost more than the slotting jig and the fretboard templates. That causes indigestion.

I don't remember where I got mine - it may have been japanwoodworker.com. It cost around $14 and has worked just fine.

I just checked them out, nothing there. I tried Garrett-Wade, Pilgrim's Projects, Rockler - nada. I looked at my saw and there is no identifying mark. Sorry.

I know $28 may seem like a lot -- but both LMII and SM sell the real deal .023" kerf fret saw and that is my recommendation, you won't be sorry. The spine on the saw is an important feature for adjustment, accuracy and smooth cutting action. Just look at this way if you had bought the SM or LMII fretting jig that would have been about $150!! You are way ahead of the $$ game. --- $.02

Ken, that's where I wound up, too, after no joy looking for saws online. I agree; the bucks aren't the important part, the results are.
