It ended up being easier to work with that I though. Broke one piece trying to bend it around a simple bending form - using heat gun and warm water.

Ultimately I bent into into place on the guitar - starting at the tail block, gently warming the purfling and taping in place as i worked it up toward the neck. The routed pufling channel gave it better support and kept it from twisting.

I picked it up at Grizzly, as I was unable to find fine rope with black as the external laminate from traditional luthier supplies.

I'll start with the fretboard today, and want to be sure my planned order approach is correct.

In the KMG online manual tapering and fretting are covered well, but I have not seen ordered steps for inlay and removing the waste above the 1st fret.

1) Draw centerline and desired taper
2) Use razor saw to trim off excess above the zero fret (nut)
3) Plane square above the nut with shooting board - being careful to maintain the exact nut to 1st fret spacing.
4) Taper fretboard
5) Inlay pearl
6) level inlay and sand fretboard

Sound like a good plan?

Many use a Fostner bit to dirll the dot pockets (brad point or even a standard bit will also work) -- a drill press is best. Keep the inlay slightly proud, sand flush.

looks like your ordering is good.

Ken I've read the approach for trimming to length at the sound hole - all looks good there.
Is my thought for trimming excess above the nut correct? Razor saw in the zero fret slot and then carefully plane flush on shooting board?
