Acoustic Guitar Construction

With the dovetail fitting better now, there's still some work to do there but I decided to start shaping the neck next.
I have the shaft pretty close, still need to work the heel a bit. I used my Lee Valley kit spoke shave to start out with and with it set to remove very thin shavings UT cut the figured maple in both directions like butter.

Then I use micro planes, sanding sticks, files and some scraping to get the shape right.

I have the neck set. The underside of the extension is shaped to fit against the top for about 1.25" from the end of the guitar. The rest of the extension just has a nice shaped clearance over the top. It didn't turn out exactly the way Bob Benedetto does it but it looks nice I think and I'm happy with it. Spraying finish under there will be a trick. My neck angle turned out just right with a 1 inch height at the bridge location with a straight edge on the frets.

I have the neck shaped about 90%. The heel will be finished after the neck is glued to the guitar as there is some overhangs to blend into the body.

Here are blanks for the tail piece and the pick guard cut from an Indian ebony fretboard blank I brought back from India in 2014.
It's the perfect thickness for the tail piece at 5/16".

The pick guard will be 3/16" when completed. I'll probably bind it to match the fingerboard and headstock.

I've decided to do a thin simple ebony heel cap. Since I'll be doing a first time for me sunburst finish that part if the guitar will be black fading into tobacco brown.

I don't have white plastic that matches the binding for a cap so ebony it will be.

Any ideas how I'm going to spray a finish under this extension and then "finish the finish" there?

I can't see spraying and then gluing on the neck as a dovetail neck is normally attached then the whole thing sprayed. Doing a sunburst I think it has to be done that way.

Can't you spay the sunburst separately, attatch the neck and then spray the clear coats?

Well Herman. I guess so, why not!!
Hmmm
I could spray just the top burst and maybe one coat of clear. Then glue on the neck. Then burst the sides, neck and back and finish with my clear top coats. As long as I don't have lacquer on any glue surfaces I suppose it should work.

Should I do it????
