Just ordered one from amazon. The stewmac type. It was 123 bucks. A bit cheaper. I used one when I went to guitar school and knew I could not go without it. I like the way it raises the work up to your face where you can see it. Anne that is just one good thing of many useful features.

it's an excellent vise. I got mine from Garrett Wade (their version is green and doesn't have the removable wheel crank) for about half the price of Stew Mac's red one.

I have a parrot vise with the cork lined tilt inserts like Tim. I use it for shaping nuts and saddles but it is also great for holding the neck as well. The cork lined inserts make holding any off-square object easy as pie. I don't have the space on my bench to leave it permanently mounted, so I built a base for it that clamps into my bench vise. I can pop it on when I need it and when it is not in use, it is stored under my bench. I made the base a bit larger than the foot print of the vise. I probably posted a pic of it somewhere, but it is pretty straight forward to make. I don't have a lot of room in my shop, so the ability to store it away when not in use is great for me.
I would not mind having one of those rotating vises to hold the box while I lacquer, but using my bench vise for that purpose is working well so far.

You can do that by adding a lazy susan swivel base. Cheap and easy.

I have a parrot type vice and the stew mac. I use both but I use the guitar repair vise way more. I have both mounted on work benches.

My parrot vise spins around, but I would like one that can bend 90* frontwards or backwards.
