One of the hobbies I am slowly getting into (I think I mentioned this before) are Glen-L boats.....I have the plans for a 20' Riviera that will be very similar tothis one:



I intend at this point to have a white bottom and white trim/upholstry, though that could change a dozen times over teh next few years. I will start cutting frame patterns this summer, just using luan or masonite...I can easily sand these right to the plan shape. Once I can start actually finding the boat, I can rough cut the frames and then route to the patterns....then the real fun begins. I anticipate it will take 3 years to finish, but I won't be able to seriously start it for another 2 or 3. I'll have to get serious about guitars agian and maybe sella few to fund this one. We'll see......

Ken, we are all looking forward to watching your boat building.
In the mean time, how is the Macacuaba guitar coming? :>)

I have ta get that one out again....I put binding on one side of the back, then had an issue with something, don't remember what. It's in the garage, but I have a padauk jumbo on the bench inside...my son wanted an acoustic, so he and I (I really) have been putzin with it when I am actually in town.

I have to tell you, the Maca was the best sounding guitar I've made yet. You really should get that one done.

OK, took a look at it and remembered why it got tucked away. It's been assembled, disassembled, and repaired so many times in the last two years I got tired of looking at it. I got clutsy with it a couple of times, made some tool mistakes, my kid klnocked it over (my fault for leaving it where he could bump it) and so forth. Here's how it stands:

1) Need to route the one maple binding I got on, there is a crack and an ugly unfillable gap in certain areas. Not a huge issue, but will need to re-bend some binding.
2) The top needs to come off. There is a buzz in the tap that I do not like, and can't determine where it is coming from. The top is in very good shape otherwise, so I need to make sure as I heat it that the center seam doesnt open, and the braces don't soften...they are my neat nifty pain in the arse laminated braces. oNce I eliminate the buzz, I can reglue the top and get moving forward with the binding.
3) Start the neck...I have a beautiful fingerboard waiting to be used on just this guitar. I'll have to make it for my kids...there's too much damage to give it to anyone else. I cleaned it up, brought it in the hose, and have a plan now, so I should make some progress soon.

I've enjoyed building & flying model aircraft (R/C, C/L & FF) for the past 5 decades. I also build Fly Fishing rods. Store bought Fly rods are very expensive but building your own saves a considerable amount of money. For some talented guys rod building is an art form with fancy inlays and wrappings. However I build them with plain wrappings for actual fishing use. Here's my 8Wt & 9Wt rods for large trout and Pike/Musky.
