Why all the spool clamps? Why not use the Mega Mold? And I agree with John, the DT or MT cap should not be removed until all the binding channels are routed.

Ok, thanks for the heads-up. Makes perfect since not to open the dove tail until after routing now that it's been pointed out.

Ken, I purchased the spool clamps before I bought the Mega Mold so I thought what the heck, I might as well use them. Let me tell you, the Mega Mold is as good as it gets. It will out last me but I'll try to wear it out.

It's very easy to use the MM with spools - just substitute screws that are longer than the ones used for the build, that reach an inch or so above the top/bottom, slip a spool over them and tighten to taste. Best to try it dry, depending on the diameter of the spools they might tend to slip off, and some good grippy cork protects and holds.
I actually used the MM mdf tabs themselves on longer screws, to glue down the top and back, with a protective caul on the instrument. It worked just fine and is worth a dry run sometime to see how you like it.

That’s some good ideas Dave. I can see using the MDF tabs with longer screws but I must admit I’ve fallen in love with rubber bands. lol

After John warned me to be careful routing around where I opened up the rims for the dove tail, I decided to place a piece of scrap pine inside and sand it even with the sides for the router guide to run across.

I routed the binding and purfling channels last night. They turnout perfect thanks to the “KMG Binding Channel Routing System”. Using the routing system was just as easy as the demo video depicts. It made me feel stupid for sitting around fretting and dreading getting the channels routed.

I’m sold on KMG products and plan on buying everything Ken has available. I like getting pro results even though this I my first attempt at building a kit. I spent a couple of hours last night just admiring the routing job. LOL

If you haven’t check out the video yet you should take a look. I ordered mine right after viewing it. Great tool!!!!!!!!!!

Here are a few more pictures.
