Yeah just enough for it to ride on and no more...if it falls away, no harm done.

The flat area on mine is 1/4" and the slope is 3/8", the overall length is 5/8". The pad thickness is 3/16". Should I slope it back so it extends only a 1/4" from the cutting edge?
