Dave,
I use the same 1/8" bottom cutting endmill that I use on brass in my knife making, and it makes a super clean slot.
You've seen my set up on the other forum, right? Drill press, cross vise, holding fixture to set the bridge slot angle.

Dave: I get blanks from LMI. They are in the.220" range. I use a 3/16" bit to cut the slot. I have loose feeler gauge blades about 6" long that I put between the holding jig and the fence it slides on. One can gradually open the slot to close in on the size of the blank and than thickness the blank for a nice push fit in the slot. My slots end up around .200" or so.
