I use two sizes, one to countersink the ball end and the other for the string. I use numbered drill bits and I have the size recorded at home (I'm at work now, ON BREAK OF COURSE), I'll look it up tonight.TonyinNYC wrote:How big of a hole do you drill for the strings to pass through?

I used a #33 for the strings which is about twice the thickness of a low E string (you could use 7/64 or any size you think would fit OK). For the counter sink you can use a #25 or mill out a slot with a 5/32 mill end. You have to be careful how deep you cut the saddle slot or you could cut into the string holes. I drill my holes .125" from the bottom of the bridge. Depending on what your final bridge thickness is you should be OK .4" or thicker.

Thanks Tim. I want to make something shaped more like a traditional belly bridge.

Lowden and Ovation have pin-less bridges -- Lowden's being my favorite sounding factory guitars.

And Mike Doolin uses them - and glues them with CA, of all things.
