You can check with Eric at Hood but I believe he specifically mentions it should not be thinned. I would think that defeats the concept of any filler -- just my $.02. I use a brush and frankly I did not give much regard of how beautiful the coats looked, fast dry overlaps and brush marks were not a concern for me -- I want a lot of product on the surface, otherwise how would the pores get filled? Just pointing out how our application approach differed and perhaps why results differed?

Ken - I just checked out Hood's new online catalogue. Very nice.
I'm thinking about purchasing a quart - any idea what the shelf life would be? And how many instruments a quart would cover effectively?

Yeah, I thinned it a bit to spray because it felt too thick as is, but yes, I know they state not to thin it.
I wasn't too worried about the looks either when I brushed, but I just felt strange to be dragging the stuff, which is what I was doing.
My technique was probably not right!! I will give it another go next time.

Not sure of the shelf life? I think brushing you should be able to get four or five guitars filled with a quart.

Many of the pore filling products I have looked at require 2-3 applications....much dependent on both the application and the wood...If the wood is VERY porous (such as the wenge I will be working on soon) then I would COUNT on 3 apps, and count my self lucky if I get it done in two.
