Kevin's advice is how I used to to it. Last time I made a jig for drilling the tuner holes, then routing the slots. Progressed the routing in about 5 depth changes. It went well. here's a bunch of pics.

Kevin, yup. That's my next step. After that - - - the 'ramps', I don't know the luthier's term for them - - - just mask, measure, and rasp carefully?

Great looking jig Carl. One of these days I will try to make slots with square ends like high end Martins have. I wonder if they use a mortise and chisel bit?

That is a handy "one for all" jig. I do that with two jigs. One for the headstock shape and one for the position of the tuner holes. Here you should be sure the sides of the headstock sides are at the width shape in the first place. Otherwise the tuners wil not be in line. (Had that before :oops: ).

It is made symetrical so that switching from side to side and indexing from the end of the headstock keeps the tuners in line.
