Neck and end blocks are in. I "drove the bus" on the radius dish to radius top and bottom, then glued in my homemade Spanish cedar kerfing.

I cut out the back plate profile, thicknesses in the drom sander down to .110", then glued on the center back strip.

Today I cleaned up the inside of the rims, sanded the kerfing, etc. I glued in some side supports. Used .100" maple.

Then I made the back braces from spruce, cut slots in the back strip, shaped the arch on the braces in the radius dish, and glued them in on the gobar deck.

I think the back is going to look great without a center strip!

binder clips as kerfing clamps

Kevin, what size are the binder clips you used on the kerfing? I'd like to try something different and I'd hate to buy a bunch the wrong size.

Thanks!

Peter they are 1.25".
Really a bit too wide for the tight curves but the have good tension. .75" would be better or .50 but they are much weaker.

I still have the old cloths pins wrapped with rubber bands to tighten them up. They do work good on really flexible kerfing like I used to buy, but not so good on my homemade kerfing.

Thanks, Kevin. I agree that the smaller clips are weaker, but there's more of them in the same area... I get a headache from trying to juggle variables.

I've been using the multicolor plastic spring clamps from harbor freight. This set comes with two sizes and they are plenty strong enough for the liners, https://www.harborfreight.com/spring-cl ... 69374.html. I bought two sets and add more when they're on sale.

I also use them to clamp and glue purfling to the edge of binding before bending. The foot on the clamp folds out so it kinda wraps around the purfling to line it up and hold it on without slipping off the binding.

Thanks Carl I'll take a look at those. 30% off right now on up to 5 items. Could be a good deal.

I shaped the back braces today and cut the inlets in the sides. Will glue the back on tomorrow.
