I believe this rim was built a little out of sequence -- and there is then a slight risk of distorting the rim, the reinforcing RR kerfing will hold it in that shape. The good news is all that is required to carefully sand the top edge flat and perpendicular to the neck block and "yer good to go".

A bit more on cause and effect ---- take a look at this tutor, if the cutoff's are not drawn properly (perpendicular to the top edge) or are not cut off properly distortion can result in thee assembly. Also if the the joint at the neck or tail block slips, distortion could result. Note on the second page, the pinning step -- not an option a necessity!

Always meant to ask - what is a #54 drill bit, and what is a #18 brad? I've found something that works ok, just askin'..

A #54 drill is .055" in diameter and a #18 brad is similar in diameter -- just alternative ID systems used by tool suppliers. The big box store have their brads ID'ed this way.
