While working on a new neck, I colored the blank area in two passes. Till the color did match. Then filled it with the varnish. Leveling and polishing. It turned out quite reasonable. It is far from perfect, but with the strings over it and after a few months of playing, I assume it will be a non issue.
So I glue the old neck in and see what happens.

Tell your friend it turned out quite good. I put it on sale in a local music store.
I asked the guitar guy in the shop if he could tell where the error was.
After 2 minutes of meticulous inspection, he could not tell.
So we agreed to put it on sale, but for a lower price than the other two there.
Sellers and buyers always go for the looks, but for qualities of a guitar I put sound and playability higher.
