Acoustic Guitar Construction

Guys, I've had my session at Luthier University today, and I think it's a good idea for me to invest in the larger Grizzly tool. Thanks very much for the conversation. This conversation may not seem like a whole lot, but it's not going to happen otherwise, and I'm better off to have heard it. I did some other looking around, and it appears to me as if the tool will help me do a better job on my projects, not just shorten the time spent. Thanks again!

John are you using the 60 grit on the spindle sander?

Whoa! Did I hear 60 grit on a spindle sander? I was thinking 320 or mebbe 220 when I was thinking of buying one. Of course not everyone is as short-sighted and unstable as I am....

I will have to check the grit I am still using whatever it shipped with. I thought it was 80 grit but it could be 60. It removes wood quickly so I use a light touch. I think if you are removing ripples you want to be somewhere around 80 finer grits than 120 are better for removing scratches than leveling.

I think that choosing the right grit at the right time is somewhat on the same continuum as choosing between parchment and polishing...and it is its own art form.

I actually thought 60 was to rough and that 80 might be right for leveling but the rolls I saw Grizzly offered went from 60 to 100. They didn't have 80.

I checked mine, it is 100 grit, I used it on 10 or more guitars, it has worked well and the paper still cuts.
