This question or rather the answer -- is basis for perhaps the most repeated and misunderstood guitar making myth -- and that is the notion that Martin guitars have bracing that is contoured to 28' The fact is Martin makes "flat top guitars" (actually the X bracing is contoured to 52' to prevent the look of concavity) The myth stems from the fact that under string tension the doming happens! And I guess that when measured "ta da" it calculates to about 28' -- start with 28' bracing when constructing and the under string tension dome is something else, and be assured it is no longer a Martin design.Naturally next question: Do you think a good guitar develops some kind of top raising, or should it stay "flat".
