Thanks guys. Re-did the nut and have much better action around the first 3 frets now. Still amazed at how bassy the guitar is.. perhaps a consequence of the thin finish?

Dave - no, it's great. I play in drop D tuning all the time and the bass strings sound amazing; i will put a video up this weekend.
The reason I commented on the finish was because I have read (in Siminoff's "Luthiers Handbook") that as you put on layers of finish it slightly stiffens the top, which increases high frequency response .. so perhaps only having a few thin layers of tru oil on the guitar means the low frequency response is "untamed", and thats why it sounds so good!?
Whatever the reason, I'm happy!
