Thanks for that information, John. It would be a nice challenge I'm sure. I'll have to really talk to him before any decision is made. For one thing, he'll be playing on stage and another, he know a lot of musicians and I sure don't want any bad or even mediocre reviews from those guys.
You provided some great resources!

You will do a good job, I am sure. Playability and intonation will be key, most likely, to making him happy. Then the fact he knows other players will be a plus, not a hazard, even though the others probably would not ever commission a 12-string. They are novelties to most.

From the neckblock to waist, a couple of very light very strong cf rods might really help as well.

I don't think they would hurt as that area does not move much, but the one I built has remained remarkable stable without them. I know you love CF rods, though.

Just so I understand -- a commitment for a commissioned build (with a 90 day window) for an instrument that has never been constructed before is a good idea?

I have to admit that I had my fill of commissions and would never do that again under any circumstances.

I really don't want to learn on a project someone is paying me for. And I'm not inclined to build one for myself to do the learning first.
