I've had three of those in my shop for several years. I just tape the filter directly to the back of the fan though, so it takes up less room. I also use the cheaper $1 20x20x1 'blue' filters and vacuum the dust buildup out of them every few days.

This is one place you don't want to go "cheap" --- I highly recommend spending a few bucks and using the MERV 10 or higher filters which can capture the fine 1 micron particles the ones that kill you! Blowing them around the shop before inhaling them does not reduce the health risk -- the re-circulation is making things worst by keeping them airborne.

That's a good idea for most shops. I have COPD & Asthma, so must wear a personal respirator/filter in my shop anyway. I'm just trying to keep the dust to a minimum in the shop. I stop and clean twice a day anyway.

Too cool for school, other then my vacuum which does hook up to my power tools I don't have a dust collector. However,I do wear a dust mask with interchangeable filters. Maybe I could do more. I just rarely use the tools.

No I dropped that idea -- its so simple to make. Actually I have rework mine and use a 4" deep filter HEPA (not cheap) and a standard 1" to pre-filter -- so now the unit is only about a 12" deep including the fan -- I'll post a picture. I think I got the last batch of filters from Menard's.

Great idea. I which I would have read it before I bought the Jet dust collector. After a couple of months I need a new filter and as posted the filters are not cheap. Thanks for the pictures and the info.
