I built a Maple/Cedar Parlor patterned after James Goodall's Pacific model. It turned out to be a nice warm sounding guitar not overly bright like some maple guitars. Check out Goodall's site, he makes some really fine guitars.

Here's a close-up of the Lowden maple/spruce, just to show the binding scheme. He uses EIR, and a fairly simple rosette.

I have some non quartered maple that has been sittin in my shop/ basement for a few years. Now does non quartered mean figured in the wood/ guitar world?. Any ways I plan on resawing some slabs up along with some cherry for back and sides. Do you guys moisten maple with the bending process? And is it worth doing all this processing instead of just purchasing from suppliers?. I know I would be saving 100 bux or so which is good because I'm gonna give this guitar to a person who will really appreciate it. I know I snuck a few ?s in there thanx in advance. And I will probly go through with the process anyways.

Do you have pictures of the material? !/4 sawn means the grain lines when looking at the end will be vertical. Slab cut grain line will be horizontal, riff grain is at an angle in between. Maple can bend easily I do use a spritz of water. You can get a very nice set of Curly Maple for about $50 -- less chance of cupping and of course it will look nicer than flat/slab.

I've decided it's not worth sawing my own wood. Ken any ideas on the 50 dollar curly maple? I saw a set from SM second grade. All other places I searched were way more.

I don't check often -- but I have seen sets on Ebay and at on line sellers as well, in your price range.
