Daniel, so you have a closet with humidy control for your wood?
Where in the NW are you located?

Kevin,

I'm about an hour north of Seattle. More often than not our humidity is on the high side, so I set up a dehumidifier to bring it down to between 45-50%. I don't currently add any moisture. Overkill I'm sure, but I'm trying to be thorough with my approach to building.

As you can see on the gauge - this time of year the humidity drops a little. ( My buddies D-28 and D-15 just had some huge cracks open up as he left them out of the cases on stands this past week )

Daniel,
I think you are near John Parchem. Have you guys hooked up?

John lives about halfway between my house and my office - we've exchanged emails many times, but have yet to meet up. I very much look forward to meeting him in person - he does some inspiring work, and has shared many great ideas with me.

Making a little more progress on the 00-12 Ziricote.

Jointed the back plates with a hand plane. I had a nice square piece of wood propping the halves up, as you would with a shooting board. Simple.

I used a simple outline template to visualize how much of the light sapwood I wanted to plane away. I ended up going for a little narrower strip than this. Tough call, as there is no putting wood back on once you plane it off.
