Just want to thank everyone for looking and your comments.
One thing that I forgot to mention was that I have a very nice one of a kind pick guard to put on the guitar, but my grandson who will own the guitar liked it better without. Oh well I guess the customer is always right!
This forum is the best, and it has been so helpful in solving many problems, just by reading all the good questions and the answers. Thanks again.

Charlie, on a technical note - Was the Hood grain filler easy to work with, any problems, any kudos etc with that product?

Not to jump ahead of Charlie but.....when I used the hoods I found after 2 sprayed coats the pores were not quite filled and they say (those They brothers) if you apply more it may get cloudy looking. I sprayed nitro on top. I still half a can

Thanks for the questions. I have used the Hood grain filler (QDWF) on all three of the guitars that I've built, with the last one filling better than the 1st two. The last one (J185), the sides came out very nice, but the back still had some pores showing. I have used a brush when applying the QDWF on all three guitars, which makes it easy to apply. The 1st two I applied two coats of the QDWF, it didn't flow very well, dried to fast and had a lot of brush marks to sand out. I talked with Erick Kasner the owner of Hood Products, before I started on the last guitar and told about the brush marks ,the fast drying, and He suggested I cut the QDWF with 5 % of their Reducer, which I did and the QDWF flowed much better with just a few brush to sand out. I applied FOUR coats on the J 185 and I think I should have applied a fifth. I let each coat dry overnight before sanding. There was no clouding that I could detect. Erick said the QDWF has been improved and there is no limit on the number of coats that can be applied now.
I am planning on using the QDWF again on the next guitar. Erick said He will work with me on the next guitar, because He's not sure why the back didn't fill well.
