That's where the headstock is inserted. These pics make this type of neck joint seem less scary. I'd like to try it one of these days.

The parallel lines that I've x'd in between seems to have an area outside of where the headstock will plug in?

The parallel lines represent the headstock thickness to make the cutting layout accurate -- check out the demo pic sequence again.

The "V" joint, which I posted a link to here somewhere and now can't find it, seems to be easier and look fine as well, but I don't know if it is good for steel string guitars.

Is there any real mechanical advantage that the bird's beak or V joint has over a well cut scarf joint?
