Acoustic Guitar Construction

I have always used cotton bath towels for protective padding when handling items with uncured and cured finishes - I definitely would never place them on one of those non-skid mats, we've had them stick to our vinyl flooring, the one we use on our dining room table (waxed/lacquer Oak) under the table cloth seems OK.

If memory serves -- Martin (I think?) had a real problem with the synthetic lining of their cases screwing up the lacquer finish.

yes, and there are vinyl guitarstraps that can ruin a finish. I always use straps with a leather end.

I've heard some guitar stands would leave bad spots where it contacts the neck. Personally I've never had it happen to me. But I belong to a lot of guitar forums and have heard some horror stories.

I had the same imprinting happen to a guitar I was working on, had to strip and refinish the back. That matting has a plasticizer in it that keeps it soft and sticky, and will affect finishes.
