Herman - unfortunately I'm no welder. And your process for bending the chisel is out of my league, so my Two Hermans line of chisels is not to be, I guess. :-)

Seriously, I plan to put the hex rod in a tube filled with epoxy to reduce flex/bow and eliminate twist. Most likely I'll harden it too. Kevin knows more about the than me. I think two heat/cools are required once to harden and the second to temper.
