Acoustic Guitar Construction

Normally I use a chisel upside down for taking down the bracing. After reading this I was tempted to buy me also one of these. But there are a few 50 years old chisels around that I do not use. So why not bending them into an S-form. This is the first result. Looking at the Cherries maybe I might have to curve the top a bit more.
It is low-budget and easy to do.

Well Herman I'm sure you will succeed in getting the chisel you want. I never would have thought of Be ding one however. Good for you

Don't know Dave. I did bend it this afternoon in breaktime. But do not worry, I'll make it work. In some weeks the tenor top will be guinea pig. I'll let you know.

Today I curved the top of the chisel a bit more. And Yes Dave, It really works fine.

I prefer you name a guitar "one Herman" and to be remembered that way, instead of becoming the Uri Geller (you know him?) in guitarbuildingland.

This is IMO the proper way of bending a chisel:
-Heat it red hot with an acetylene/oxygen burner. The metal is then like gum.
-Form it the way you want.
-Cool instandly the hot metal in an oil bath. That hardens the stuff.
-Reheat it with a butaneburner or 15 minutes in an oven at 200 degree Celsius.
That takes down the tension in metal and makes it less brittle.
-Polish it : é voilá.
