On my already done list are:
Pau Ferro: Great wood, rings like a bell, non-porous indeed, but I'm allergic to it (as many people are, I read 10%). Very easy to finish, no pores.
Alder: So easy to finish that it is almost boring.
Maple: ditto.
Purple heart: Strange purple wood, hard to bend. But mine had serious pores.
Bloodwood: Still have some bindings around, only little pores.
On top of my opposite list stands Wengé. More pores than wood. Tends to splinter, but great under a finish. Try it for a fingerboard, you'll be suprised.
