Kevin, I think the dread would have looked much better with a natural finish myself but I had to try my hand at staining. I've got it out of my system for awhile. Yes, it’s spruce and a very pretty top.
I’m pretty happy with the way they look but I’m blown away by the way they play and sound. All these years I had no idea that a kit guitar could match the sound and playability of the big boys. I’ve owned and still do own quite a few acoustics by Gibson, Martin, Guild, Larrivee & others. These hold their own pretty well and the dread is a banjo killer.
There might be a little bit of builders pride involved in these statements. LOL,,,,, OK, they’re not the best guitars I’ve ever played but they are sure nice!!
